Digg-ing into slow-cooked comfort

By Charles Martin | January 27, 2008

Do you DIGG the hothead – or any other blog/site that you like?

I was digg-ing around and the top feed today is alarming. Something we knew about — obesity. But the graphic is appalling. CNN Fat Map .

wow — want to run out to a lard encrusted cold stone right now don’t you? I know some Missipp’ians and it’s true ya know. Its pretty pasty and wonder bread in a lot of places down there, but even in Cally we have this problem. I can go on but so that I don’t sound like a skinny snob, I’ll send you to this book I loved and another new one by the same author. Both give you an idea as to how one can survive in our plastic food word. Omnivore’s Dilemma & In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan.

The short and skinny is that if the ingredient list is longer than 5 words, it’s not food. Pretty true.

It’s also true that you pay for the luxuries in life. When I was young, I was tortured for being skinny and almost non-existent body wise. It was miserable and I wanted to have all the muscles and fat the other guys in P.E. had. But no…

Now, I enjoy a steady weight going on 15 or 20 years and the same pants size as long. Who knew that it would be a luxury to have little to carry around later in life? So, if you’re fat or if you’re skinny, do not despair. It can be very temporary.

Oh ya… just like my favorite poster in the office says… go out and get some exercise everyday even if its just walking around your apartment. You’ll be glad you did.
