The Planet is Really So Very Small

By Charles Martin | March 28, 2008

Today I received a call from the biggest whale of whales in my business to finally say “send us the contract and we will do the deal”. This whale will represent a couple of years of private school for my kid in commissions. But the real story is that the other stuff you get in sales which is recognition and the furtherance of what you’re all about is actually more valuable. After all, my kid’s school takes Visa.

The story goes like this. In 1995 I was pissed at the same client’s business for some reason and I wound up owing them a few thousand bucks. If you know my business, you can figure out what I’m talking about. But for this purpose I just want to say that in small claims that very same year I came up against the EXACT guy that will now sign my deal. I didn’t work in this business. I was just a customer. I could have broken the guy and sh*t canned my Karma (I cap this like people cap God because Karma is my God) but I decided to the right thing.

13 (THIRTEEN) years later I now am pitching same fellow and if I had made a stink the ol’ boy would have remembered me. He would have deleted me and I would have never had the chance to make my place on his blotter.

Flush twice.
