This economy gives us reasons to act and be better souls
By Charles Martin | July 23, 2008
One thing I’ve been thinking about lately –
When things are getting rougher for all of us, I tend to max out the “pay it forward” part of my universe.
I just sold a large deal in my day-job and it’s imperative for me to pay it forward. When I get voracious on a concept, I go nuts. I’m overboard. Probably to the point of annoyance
When you finalize the big sale, finish a project, get that raise you’ve fought long and hard for or reach a major life or career milestone turn right around and pay ALMOST ALL OF IT forward. You will get this back in spades.
- Offer new deals to other commissioned people in your life and don’t ask for the cut.
- Call the referrals for friends that you put on the back burner and make their new prospects call them hell or high-water so they too can get that sale.
- Give another client that isn’t as deep-pocketed as your whales a freebie. Give many clients a freebie.
- Give your kids 10% more time when a sale comes through that they’ve missed quality time in the recent past because of. I enrolled mine in TaeKwondo today and we have a new thing to do together.
- Use your talents from sales or negotiation to help out others that aren’t as capable. In my universe, that means renegotiating mortgages for people under water for free.
- Take time out of your work day for something ridiculous and something that will never help you but help them 100%. I am touring a friend’s kid inside Hollywood for a few days. He will be a genius player one day and it’s worth it for me.
[replace the word sale with "deal", "contract", etc. if you like] You don’t even have to accomplish something gargantuan. Just pass on the good luck to others right now. It’s the perfect time to freshen all the stale and downer news.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T LOOK BACK AND DON’T BE UPSET WHEN YOUR EFFORTS AREN’T RETURNED IN KIND. IT’S NOT A CONDITIONAL ACT.
