Try this new site for party music

Monday, June 30th, 2008

If you don’t care who sung “Tequila”, then you should check out DPM Records.  My day-job boss invests in this company and it has promise.  They’re leaning on the long tail pretty hard and have begun to find their niche.  I’ll review the site more thoroughly later, but get a few songs and see how [...]

Coldplay’s best. Always a new plateau.

Hotels with courage

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

This piece from FastCompany is very interesting in that Starwood threw out the old line marketing ideas of focus groups and actually decided to use an art gallery twist that took the mundane hotel visit and made it memorable –as it should be.  This was done for the Le Meridien chain.  Can’t wait until Holiday Inn figures [...]

What’s your company’s lingo?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Is your company so advanced that it has created a new set of words and phrases that others in your industry have subscribed to? I’ve been noticing that just about every reality show on television with a contest uses two phrases that Simon Cowell coined — “competition” as in “This competition is about people like you…” [...]

This business is in DRIVE

Monday, March 31st, 2008

This was in our car after an $8.50 valet service at one of our favorite restaurants.  Sure, expensive but fine and worthy of it.  They had more information, manners, and respect than most.  It was non-eventful.  A good thing when your car is being driven by someone else.  But the next day I found this.  [...]

The Tide is Turning

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Apple Marcus noted that his Thomas English muffins were now touting their absence of HFCS.  I noted this on my recent Lender’s Bagel package as well. Marcus writes: Interesting how they can turn a mistake into a marketing tool. On further thought, I would interpret this as Thomas’ changing with the mood of the food industry [...]

It’s the way you word it

Seth has some good things to say about how HR can be called another word and virtually change the type of people you attract and hire.

The Niches Have It

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

I was working on Christmas gifts recently and thought how it’s becoming more and more a niche world. Sure, we knew this in some major areas, but this is true in my 4 year old’s life too. He didn’t just want a Nintendo DS for Christmas, he wanted a red titanium one with a special [...]
